Impacting the Community
We the TechnoJays understand the mission of FIRST and try to incorporate these concepts in our daily lives through the following:
Pennies for Peace
The TechnoJays decided to make a global impact. We're sponsoring a Pennies for Peace campaign. This program empowers communities through education in Pakistan and Afghanistan! Our goal is to raise $600 by March 17, so far we've collected $294.
S.H.O.P.
Southfield High Outreach Program (SHOP) is designed to build awareness in science, math, engineering and technology. We share it through the promotion of FIRST to local middle schools. In SHOP we also present mini engineering lessons to expose students to aeronautical, mechanical and electrical engineering.
Recycling
The TechnoJays have gone GREEN. We are leading the effort in reducing plastic bottles placed in landfills by collecting them in our school. Water bottle recycling also reduces our trash volume and decreases our trash removal expense for the school district.
Martin Luther King Jr Walk
The TechnoJays walk proudly every year with our banner in the MLK Peace Walk. We represent our school's FIRST robotics Team 94. Southfield is the first city in Michigan to commemorate the first national observance of Dr. King’s birthday with a peace walk.
EGGS'travaganza
The TechnoJays volunteer in the annual Easter egg hunt. We help by running a game area or helping with the children’s arts and crafts area. We also participate in the clean up of the event.
Engineering Academy Night
Every year in the district's academy night we show how technology is a big part of our future. We demostrate our robot in action, our electric car and the NASA lab. We hope our passion will make them share our "FIRST Love" too.
